MA 200k report, VT 200k next!

Update: Results for the MA 200k and Sunday Series May rides (May 3rd & 4th) have been posted to the results page.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the 200k last Saturday (May 3rd). The weather held out for the nearly 80 riders who participated in the event. This is one of the most challenging NER rides per kilometer of distance so everyone who came out should feel accomplished. The volunteers did a fantastic job along with ride leader Steve Wimberg. Please thank them when you see them on the road — the ride couldn’t have happened without their hard work. Also thank Justin Brooke if you liked the single page cue sheet used on this and many other rides.

We had many first time riders and we hope to see everyone again on a future event. I heard lots of talk about preparations for the Paris Brest Paris 1200k to be next held in August 2015. This website will have a PBP info page for local riders soon but in the meantime here is what you need to know in a nutshell: There will be an American entrant quota and registration is based on the longest ACP brevet you complete in 2014. So a rider who completed this weekend’s 200k will get to register before someone who waits until next year to ride a ACP brevet. Endurance fitness takes time to develop so riders are encouraged to ride a full series this year as training for next year. (Even if you don’t ride over the winter you will do better in 2015 if you ride a lot in 2014.)

One bit of sad news is that we had a rider involved in a single bicycle accident which required hospitalization but his injuries are not life threatening. On behalf of all of us at NER we wish him a speedy recovery. Special thanks goes out to NER’s president Dan Greene who accompanied the rider to the hospital and waited with him as his injuries were examined.

Next up is the VT 200k! This is a fantastic route which is slightly less hilly then the Boston 200k. Everyone is highly encouraged to register and attend. Registration closes Friday so register now.

Upcoming 200k Events

Just a reminder that registration closes Friday morning for this Saturday’s 200k from Bedford, MA to Southern New Hampshire. A slightly revised cue sheet and RideWithGPS link was posted on Monday. Also check out the photos have been posted on the Boston 200k page to get an idea of what you’ll experience on the ride. Register now!

If you don’t register on BikeReg and still wish to ride the 200k, just show up 30+ minutes early! There will be a $5 surcharge plus the entry fees (a total of $30 for non-members) and exact change is preferred. Please register online if at all possible as it saves you money and saves us time.

The Vermont 200k on May 10th just got an updated route which is better then ever. This is a really great loop route leaving from Burlington and heading south east on paved rural roads. A preliminary cue sheet has been posted to the VT 200k event page. Register for the ride now!
