Description:

The Vermont 400k begins in Montpelier, VT. Riding clockwise we’ll circle the center of our fair state – taking in Montpelier, Randolph, and Woodstock on our way to our ‘halfway’ control at the Coop in Putney, VT. Leaving Putney we’ll follow a short section of the Boston 600k route to the Dummerston covered bridge and turn north to Grafton and Ludlow. From Ludlow riders follow the scenic VT 100 north through Rochester, Granville Gulf, and Waitsfield before returning to the start.

This route offers rural roads, scenic views, and terrain to test your climbing fitness. Riders should be self supported and prepared for limited services on the return leg – rural Vermont offers wonderful roads to ride – and in some places limited places to find creature comforts. The last ~92 miles offers no open services after 10pm. Riders should stock up at the Ludlow control and plan accordingly. A cache of water will be dropped on the return leg, location announced at the ride start and noted on the cue sheets.
