2015 NER Board Candidates

All 2015 NER Members will be receiving a ballot in the mail to vote for the 2016 NER Board. Below is the current slate of 2016 candidates and their statements.

David Cain
New Candidate - Waitsfield, VT

I have been involved in the Vermont brevet series since 2011 when I rode my first brevet and was immediately hooked. Over time it became apparent to me how much work went into successfully running a ride, let alone a series of rides, so I was drawn to get involved. With the evolution of the Vermont rides being organized by a small group, I have taken on designing and running rides for the last two years and look forward to continuing for the foreseeable future. I love riding long distances and I enjoy the community that comes with the randonneuring experience. I am excited to foster both as a member of the NER'd board.
I also am interested in any potential to broaden our geographic scope to fully encompass our name. It'd be fun to have rides originate from locations other then Eastern Mass and Central Vermont. That said, I am proud to help represent the "northern wing" of NER'ds and look forward to contributing my experience and energy to help the organization grow. Thanks for your support!

2015 Board Member - Medford, MA

I've been an avid transportation and recreational cyclist my entire life, and got into randonneuring four years ago. It drew me with its focus on challenge without competition, and I've had a wonderful time on NER brevets as a rider, a volunteer, and this past year as a board member ride organizer.
I'd like to continue helping the club run the existing series and expand the range of rides, both in terms of new challenges for experienced riders and more beginner options to help new riders feel comfortable trying out randonneuring.

2015 Board Member - Watertown, MA

I'm running to further the development of our beloved New England Randonneurs club. I will work to uphold our high standards for events and preach the joys of our sport to those unfamiliar.
I completed my first 200k with NER almost 10 years ago, and recently completed the Downeast 1000k. I'm very grateful for the support that has come from volunteers and fellow riders; it's been essential to my growth as a rando. Returning that support through volunteering and running an event is satisfying, and great fun!

I've been the NER RBA for the past two years and the Webmaster since NER was founded. There is a tremendous amount of work to be done to ensure the rides comply with RUSA's requirements and are enjoyable (hopefully!) but it's rewarding to see the series continue and grow. I'm looking forward to the 2016 with a few new routes and a return of many popular destinations.

2015 Board Member - Boston, MA

I've been involved with NER as a rider and volunteer since 2012, and served on the board in 2015. In 2016, I plan to contribute to the club by running several of the winter 100k permanents which will be new routes designed by me and run one of the longer season rides. I also want to help develop the connection our members have with the club by helping to organize club social events and creating branded merchandise. My biggest goal as a board member is to use that position to encourage more young people to get involved with randonneuring.

2015 Board Member / Treasurer - Montpelier, VT

I have been involved with NER since 2011, initially as a ride leader & more recently as the Vermont ride coordinator. This past August, with the help of many, many volunteers, I organized the Downeast 1000k. The support from all those who helped make this event a success was amazing. Working with all of the volunteers both before the ride & over the course of three long days & nights gave me a renewed appreciation for the amazing group of folks involved with NER. Serving on the Board for the past year has also provided me a deeper understanding of all that NER offers to randonneurs in our area. The work that all of the volunteers, ride leaders & board members do to make this organization function as smoothly as it does is incredible. I hope to have the opportunity to continue serving on the board & to be able to continue giving back to this great organization which has given so much to me over the years.

2015 Board Member / Clerk - Medford, MA

I've been involved with randonneuring in New England for around ten years, and have been a regular volunteer and board member for the last several years. I plan to continue in my current roles as clerk and volunteer coordinator, and to do whatever else needs doing to help keep our club running smoothly. I also hope to contribute to our ongoing efforts to attract new riders and entice them into the longer events.
