Description:

The Goose Green 200k is a new, RUSA-Approved, Vermont brevet for 2014! This is a very challenging course with eight significant climbs, many of which traverse major mountain passes. There is an approximate split of 78%/22% of paved/dirt roads. The majority of the dirt roads are well traveled with decent surface conditions. An appropriate selection of climbing gears will prove very helpful on this ride. Most of the ride will either involve climbing or descending through the following areas:

• Granite Hills – climbing begins right from the start & doesn’t let up until cresting the Granite Hills east of Barre; ~1,100′ climb
• Corinth/Chelsea – climb through the Granite Hills; ~1,000′ climb
• Chelsea/Williamstown – climb through the Granite Hills; ~700′ climb
• Williamstown/Northfield – climb over the shoulder of Paine Mountain; ~800′ climb
• Roxbury Gap – climb over the Northfield Range; ~1,200′ climb
• Lincoln Gap – extremely steep mountain climb crossing the spine of the Green Mountains; ~1,300′ climb
• Appalachian Gap – very steep climb back over the spine of the Green Mountains; ~1,100′ climb
• Moretown Mountain – cross back over the Northfield Range; ~700′ climb”

Lights & reflective gear is recommended for all and is required for those riders who will finish the ride in over 12 hours. Due to the challenging terrain on this ride, the time of completion for riders may be significantly longer than usual. Plan accordingly, bring lights & reflective gear, just in case you need a bit longer to finish the ride.
